I think you're right, I've always seen it as a wrong move as well, but it looked like I could gain some advantage at the time. unfortunately, the trade didn't happen the way I anticipated it.

I think-- I could be wrong-- that in general c5 is not advisable, and b6-a5 is the standard counter-play to that.
