but if you respond with king to e2, then I can go rook to h1 or c1. If I go to c1 I loose material as I've hung a piece, if I go to h1...you are right, I would win the rook.

Move 62. Had you done Nc2+, you fork my king and my rook, forcing me to defend by taking your knight with my bishop, letting you take my rook with your rook. I was willing to make that trade simply because I wanted to get rid of your knight, lol.

there was never an opportunity to get your rook, so I decided to go with this.

And you don't even get to keep the pawn you won. I have my pick of which pawn to take now. I think that is game, or soon will be.

Nc2+ would have netted you my rook for your knight (instead of Bg4+). Now you merely gain back a pawn and free my rook.

I was not expecting that move... unless I'm missing something, that was a mistake. Well, we'll see, won't we? :D

I was expecting king to d2

Not the worst trade for me, really. I still hold a very narrow advantage, though it's going to be interesting to see if I can convert on the lessened advantage. I made a mistake in the pawn trading that would have saved me quite a bit of trouble. Ah well.

good 1.

interesting bishop move there...didn't consider it.
Mike

it seems to have opened up space around your king.

Some how my bad pawn donation seems to have paid off.

I like it. Even when I have a disadvantage, it still feels like there is always a chance.

smoke time, brb.
Devin

Our games have felt a lot like fencing lately, lol.

En garde!

Ahhh, didn't see that. And I agree. I knew I set myself behind with what I had done. Lucky me that Mike didn't notice that.

I think if 10. Nb5 a6 11. Nc7, then black could win by 11. ... e5
Devin

Now to use my tempo defensively and give you tempo, since I lack valuable offensive moves.
Devin

I figured that with only one of each rook, bishop, and knight left in play, I didn't need my castle. Rather, I sacrificed my castle to go ahead a pawn and maintain tempo, not to mention moving my king into a favourable area. And with the queens gone, my pawn advantage isn't at risk of drawing to permacheck.

any ways, I've gotta get to the u of c bookstore, but I will get another move or two in later this aft.
Mike

also, I figured at the very least your castling options are gone.
Mike

I noticed that I had overlooked something in my original calculation, so I didn't really leave myself with a choice. I can't see to far ahead at this point, so we will see.

I'm learning a lot in the past few games with you and john. I'm really seeing how calculating moves to far out can be destructive.
Devin

I wondered if you'd go for the aggressive counter option. :) This should get interesting.
Devin
4554 days ago
I thought you wouldn't be, lol. I had actually expected you to lead first with a6, forcing me to do a Nc7, which then lets you stalemate the game with Nh5 Qg4 Nf6 Qf4 repeat.
Mike
4554 days ago
I wasn't expecting that.
Devin

It is an interesting open.

I'm glad to have another chance at this opening. I looked it up after this move in my name with john where I moved knight to f6 instead of pawn to e6.
