Well... you have clearly been practicing since our last game. I better check that out.

-if you are up a piece than trading is a good strategy.
Example: 8 pawns vs. 7 is less of an advantage than 2 vs. 1. I use this quite often if I am playing a better player, because the longer the game goes on the less likely I will hold that advantage. but like I say, Chess master 2000 has all of this.

pawn structure is important, so for example when I took your knight with my bishop, while point wise the trade favoured you, you would have had 2 pawns stacked in 1 column. so actually, pawn structure is a good spot to start. Imagine the board with no major pieces. Then we have what they call "pawn chains" and "pawn islands". So chains as you can imagine are just pawns that are linked and of course the weakness in the chain is the bottom pawn. while islands occur when you have columns between you chains. the person with the most islands has the weakest pawn structure because each island has a "weak" bottom pawn. So that's the basics of that. If you can find a software download for chess master 2000, it has tutorials from one of the worlds greatest chess masters, and it doesn't take that long to go through all of them, but it is really fascinating to see all the things one must consider during a match of chess, and I am personally just trying to work in theory at a time until I have them all mastered so that I can use them in unison. I think you would like it, as it is much like understanding theorems in math and then applying them.

control of the centre is key. Pretty much you don't want to move any piece twice in the beginning of the game. Here is a list of things to consider:
-King's pawn is very important, so you you should have traded off with your queens pawn on turn 5.
- I try not to bring my queen out to early because my opponent can attack it forcing me to retreat while they develope control of the middle.

What am I missing in this one? Apart from being underdeveloped, of course.
