Game 363: History

Okay, so I'm not going to do it because it reduces this game to a pretty much foregone conclusion as we start trading off pieces, but... Rxc8 Nxb4 Rxd8, my queen for both your rooks. Reduces the game to something with relatively little in the way of strategic decisions and gives you virtually no hope. Also most likely makes the game last longer, lol, because of the inevitability of trading pieces at that point and pushing pawns. :P I just wanted to mention it as a very viable alternative to my next move, lol.

Unanticipated. You finally did something I didn't expect. I thought you'd go on the offensive and push me hard with Nf6+, lol. Now I gotta look again! Oh noes. :D

these games are almost more fun to play, as it is so open any one move could lead to disaster...good practice.

Figured you'd do that. Trying to pin my queen. Nasty, nasty. :D Still not losing your edge down some pieces. I think I know exactly where this is going for the next four or five moves at least, lol. This game has been playing out pretty predictably, lol. Which is good, you're not giving me anything for free, you keep playing my worst-case-scenario moves. :)

Yeah I like the bishop move. I figured you'd do it, creates a nice defensive structure that is actually going to be a bit of a pain to crack. I'll probably be forced to trade a few pieces to get mate.

actually screw that idea.

I think i am going to go for it too!(the imediate sacrafice that is)

I think that your move sequence was actually extremely good. Had I played that too much differently, you could have hamstrung me and gotten back into the game. There were a number of traps where I would lose my queen and actually give you an advantage. When you're down a queen, you have to gamble.

I don't think you have any checks after this, aside from immediate sacrifices. Now this is where I'm not sure what your next move is.

well, I'm going to have to hang a bunch of pieces:( I overlooked some things.

I expected your queen move, but noticed I am going to get some free checks out of the whole deal, but I'm not sure what more I will gain. the queen move was definitely you best option, but I'm hoping to get some developement out of this.

My biggest question with this sequence is... did I read your options correctly and will this play out (like it has so far) exactly as I had planned, or did I miss something that will let you devastate me with it? As I said, it was a very risky thing to do when I could simply have moved my pawn to a3 and ruin any counter-offense you had, which is the safe play... but I was intrigued to see if you could salvage something by my letting you do this. I still think I know at least your next move, but I believe I've stalled out your offense without losing any material. Qxd4 is a deceptively powerful move, I think... none of my analysis shows a move that lets you regain any material over the next three turns each. Most move sequences lose you material. I think. :D

I believe that your damage comment came from the assumption that I was going to take your knight with my pawn, letting you take my rook for free with your bishop. Of course, as you said, at that point I have a completely free lane with which to assault your king. But I really wanted to try out this sequence and not sacrifice my rook, ahaha.

I have a feeling I'm going to do some damage to you here, but then your are going to be able to turn around and checkmate me really fast....oh well, I just want to see how many of your guys I can take down with me if I can't winn:)

Definitely comebackable. I decided to take this high risk, high reward path 'cuz it's interesting.

it's funny how that works. Against the computer I often win it's queen early and then lose the game, so I don't want to give up quite yet.

I didn't see that move. Stalls my aggression very nicely.

Yeah, it's a dangerous proposition. You hemmed yourself in with the knight though. As soon as you brought your queen out, I caught myself grinning in delight, lol. Had a feeling I'd be able to make things go badly for ya.

fuck i can't believe you got my queen. it can be so rewarding to bring your queen out early sometimes, but when you lose it, it kinda sucks.

hehe, thank you. I also have been treating every move in the same way.

Well, I'm going to thank you for making me angry at myself for that one. I wouldn't have seen that option ordinarily. Also, just so you know, my anger was mostly at myself for letting you do that. I didn't expect it of you, and that's my fault. It's well within your right in playing chess to do mindgames like that, as chess as a game is the pinnacle of war.

On the flip side, if you didn't do that, I wouldn't be taking this so seriously now, lol. Also a good thing. So thank you. I also realize that I was a bit harsh in what I said. I mostly mean I'm going to ignore any psychological stuff you say and treat every move as a potential checkmate and/or stalemate.
