Ah! KNEW I missed something you could do. Ah, well, lol. Here we go!
Mike

agreed. I want to see you rook and king check mate me, as it will also be educational(at least for me).

Also, thank you for playing this through so far! It was very educational.

Well king and rook versus king is a gg endgame, it's guaranteed victory. Might as well try to see if you can force me into a mistake. All you're risking is changing it into king and queen versus king, but both are losses regardless. The second you trade your rook for my pawn, you effectively concede the match.

my plan is to make it a rook and king vs king endgame... i probably should have just sacraficed my rook for that pawn to begin with but i wanted to see you convert it. how ever , now you will get a quenn i guess.

Kf2 Rd1 Rxd1 Kxd1 (anything) b1
(Rg1 | Rf1 | Re1) Rd2+ (Ke3 | Kf3) Rd1 Rxd1 b1
(Rook moves upwards along h file) b1
Rb1 Kxb1 Kxd3 Ka2 (anything) b1
So... this is now a king and queen versus king endgame. I did disregard a couple cases, but those are all rook and queen endgames for me, so I doubt you'll give me that much, lol.

I did that wrong. Oh well I think I see how to do it right now, lol.

Until I either make a mistake and let you stale/win or it's reduced to king and rook versus king, I assume, lol.
Mike

i will play this one out for practice, at least until....
Devin

Well, checkmate unless I screw up. Wasted a few moves only to realize that I can't force you to trade rooks, so it will be a rook and king versus king rather than queen endgame. :P

yes
Devin

The rook move, I assume?
Mike

damn i knew that was the losing move as soon as I did it.

I saw the move and went "Oooo this could be fun" then spent another 5 - 10 minutes making sure I wasn't shooting myself in the foot. ^^; I definitely intend going over that move sequence with Justin because of the danger potential there. It's a very good example of a deep attack.

yeah, that opening move with the knight was fantastic. I thought I was sunk when I first saw it.

I figured that move was worth it... I didn't lose anything in the worst case (which is how it played out), actually gained forcing you to have a stacked pawn, and spoked the dangerous attack you had building up. And there were SO many potential pitfalls, if you didn't play it exactly how you did I had you by the balls, lol.

I was too passive early with this one. Definitely have a few things I'd do differently around round 7 - 9. I wanted to see how it would play out if I play it defensively, but this open gives you too much aggression benefits. I'm not losing yet, but I gave you too much space with your pawns and I lack my preferred defensive wall for dealing with your presses. It's going to be interesting.

I've watched a few variations, and they all seemed resonable, however each one was different, so it seems to be the way it is with this opening.

This is definitely a different looking board than what I'm used to seeing with my sicilian opens. I get why they call it "open sicilian" now. The board is tremendously open, despite the fact that only a pawn each is gone.

this was the one I watched, however, I am just improvising now.

Ahahaha, well I gotta say I like what I read. My reasoning for making the a6 move is for exactly the same reason that it's apparently the most popular sicilian followup.
Regardless, methinks it's going to be interesting to REALLY get to try out the sicilian here. I'm looking forward to seeing the depth the move has instead of the standard plays I face with it.

I was going to do this move, then I decided to see if it was one of the variations. Looks like it is. This looks interesting.
Mike

yes, I decided to look it up so we could have a good match.

For all the times I've played the sicilian, this is the first time the classic open has come through, lol.
