Game 172: History

Yep. I made a mistake defending an already defended piece and gave you a big opening. I used a similar pinned pawn attack on Clark in our current game only to make a HUGE mistake and almost lose.

That pinned pawn at e3 would have made all the difference if I had thought to use it.

Note that I didn't mean to say "no line of retreat". Obvious given that I go on to detail your line of retreat. More, the point I meant to get across is that your best move after I attack is do effectively undo your previous move. That effectively gives me two free moves. It doesn't hurt you immediately, but at that point you retreat and save yourself... for now. But you have almost no avenues for attack, while I can slowly and patiently build up for a massive attack that you simply don't have the space to defend against.

Your move with your queen to e6 had a tonne of potential, but was EXTREMELY dangerous. You left yourself with no possible line of retreat. My attack on your knight was premature due to a mistake of mine not noticing that you c4 pawn was defended by my bishop. I should have defended against the fact that you have my e3 pawn pinned so you can do Nxd4 on move 20 instead of moving your knight where I wanted him in a5. Fortunately for me, you missed that.

Now, the next move is your big mistake. You COULD have fallen your queen back to d7. When I move Bh3 to threaten your queen, you immediately move to e6 with your pawn. I gain further piece development and push you behind your wall of pawns, but you're well defended at this point.

Now on move 23 you've already moved to f6 and you know that your queen is screwed. Best move for you is Qxg5. Bxg5 Bxe4 Rg1 forces my rook away and gets you two pieces for your queen, and if I make the mistake of Nxg5 you follow with Bxh1 and get a rook and a knight for your queen... close to an even trade.

You do eventually get my rook, but at that point I don't even care about it. It would take me too much effort to get it into play... and the subsequent hell I get to wreak on you because I've shattered your pawns makes it game over.

Finally, my sacrifice on move 59 ended the game. Let me get my queen in tight where I wanted her. Assured checkmate in three from that point on. Was absolutely nothing you could do to stop it.

You had ways out of it but you missed them lol. I'll cover it in my analysis.

Have not let that happen for a long time. In fact, I think I took an oath.

Your g7 bishop is doing all of the heavy lifting stalling out any attack from me. You're forcing me to try suffocating you with overwhelming board control while introducing possible queenside attacks.

You father is playing a LOT more lately. It took us a good four months to finish our first match, and maybe a week or two total for our second, which is a foregone conclusion now.
